Altoona, PA - Fatal Auto Accident on I-99 at Bellwood Under Inquiry

Altoona, PA (August 14, 2025) – According to officers with the Altoona Police Department, a section of I-99 southbound was closed for a deadly vehicle crash on Thursday, August 14.

A four-vehicle crash occurred near the Bellwood exit of I-99 that involved a gasoline tanker. PennDOT stated the closure would be in place until 2:00 p.m. while crews worked.

Blair County Coroner Ray Benton confirmed the coroner’s office was called to UPMC Altoona at 11:24 a.m. However, it's unclear how many people were ultimately hurt in the incident.
