Walnutport, PA (February 15, 2026) – An 86-year-old man died following a crash involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV in Walnutport Borough on February 13. The Northampton County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Francesco Scutari of Towamensing Township, Carbon County.
The crash occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. along Route 145 in the area of North Best Avenue and Spruce Street. This section of roadway runs through a mixed residential and commercial corridor and carries both local and through traffic, including commercial trucks.
According to the coroner’s office, Scutari operated the SUV and was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Officials reported that a tractor-trailer was also involved in the collision. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assess injuries and secure the area.
Despite medical efforts, Scutari died from multiple blunt force injuries. Authorities have not released additional details regarding how the crash occurred or what events led up to the collision.
Police closed portions of Route 145 while crews worked at the scene. Investigators examined vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and the surrounding intersection to determine the sequence of events.
Officials have not stated whether charges or citations are under consideration. Authorities continue to investigate the crash. Additional findings may become available as police complete their review.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Francesco Scutari during this challenging time.
Collisions between passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers frequently lead to serious or fatal injuries. Tractor-trailers weigh significantly more than SUVs or sedans, which increases the force transferred during impact. When a smaller vehicle absorbs that force, occupants face a higher risk of traumatic injury.
Blunt force injuries often occur in these crashes. Sudden deceleration and intrusion into the vehicle cabin can cause severe trauma to the head, chest, and internal organs. Older adults may face additional vulnerability due to age-related physical factors.
Intersections like Route 145 near North Best Avenue and Spruce Street require careful navigation. Drivers must judge gaps in traffic, account for turning movements, and remain aware of large vehicles that require extended stopping distances. Miscalculations or visibility limitations can contribute to collisions.
After a fatal crash, investigators typically review multiple elements. They examine vehicle positioning, skid marks, traffic signals, and electronic data when available. They may also interview witnesses and analyze surveillance footage to reconstruct the event.
Pennsylvania law allows surviving family members to pursue wrongful death and survival claims when a fatal accident occurs. These legal avenues may address medical expenses, funeral costs, and other financial losses. Strict filing deadlines apply, so early awareness remains important.
A wrongful death attorney can help families understand investigative findings and evaluate potential legal options. Legal guidance typically focuses on explaining processes and answering questions clearly.
