Reading Township, PA (May 9, 2026) — A tragic two-vehicle collision early Saturday morning, May 9, claimed the life of one passenger and left at least four others injured in Adams County. The accident occurred at approximately 7:16 a.m. at the intersection of East Berlin Road (Route 234) and Stoney Point Road.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, a vehicle traveling south on Stoney Point Road failed to stop at a posted stop sign. This vehicle entered the intersection and was struck by a second car traveling east on East Berlin Road. The force of the impact caused the southbound vehicle to overturn, rolling into the yard of a nearby residence.
A passenger in the overturned car was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and an additional passenger were transported to a regional hospital, while the occupants of the second vehicle were hospitalized in stable condition. An air medical unit also responded to the scene to assist with the critically injured.
Local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who lost his life, and we also wish a full recovery to everyone affected by this accident.
In Pennsylvania, passengers generally have a stronger legal standing because they are rarely at fault for the collision. As a passenger, you have the right to seek compensation for your medical bills and trauma from the insurance policies of both drivers involved.
To protect these rights, you must document your specific injuries, secure the contact and insurance information for both operators, and consult a lawyer to ensure your claim is not unfairly diminished by the drivers' disputes over liability.
Pennsylvania law requires all auto policies to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP). As a passenger, your medical bills are typically covered first by your own auto policy (if you have one) or the policy of a relative you live with. If neither applies, the insurance for the vehicle you were riding in must provide these benefits.
Many Pennsylvania passengers are surprised to find they are bound by the Limited Tort selection on their own or their household’s insurance policy, which can restrict their right to sue for pain and suffering. However, there are specific exceptions that a lawyer can identify. If the injury is deemed serious under state law or involves a commercial vehicle, a passenger may be able to bypass these restrictions to seek full financial recovery for the long-term impact of the accident.
Additionally, a lawyer will use your witness statement and objective data, such as vehicle rest positions in the yard where the car rolled, to build a case that prioritizes your recovery. This allows you to stay focused on your physical healing while your legal representative handles the adversarial negotiations between the two insurance companies.
