Pittsburgh, PA (December 20, 2025) – A Pennsylvania teenager died on December 19 after a sliding vehicle struck her on Brownsville Road in Pittsburgh’s Carrick neighborhood. The fatal incident occurred around 2:50 p.m., according to Pittsburgh police.

Investigators said a vehicle traveled along Brownsville Road when it began sliding on slick roadway conditions. Police reported that the driver lost control as the car moved downhill. The vehicle then collided with a utility pole along the roadside.

After striking the pole, the car continued sliding forward. Moments later, it struck a 17-year-old girl who stood on the sidewalk nearby. Officials said the teen had no time to escape the path of the vehicle.

Pittsburgh Public Schools identified the victim as Ishara Kami, a high school senior. Emergency crews responded quickly after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck. Officers secured the area while paramedics rushed to provide aid.

First responders performed CPR at the scene before transporting Ishara to a nearby hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, doctors pronounced her dead after arrival. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the driver or potential charges.

Pittsburgh police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision. The investigation remains active as police gather additional information.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim's family and friends during this heartbreaking time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Pittsburgh

Pedestrian deaths remain a serious concern across Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Corridors like Brownsville Road carry steady traffic and changing elevations. These conditions increase risk, especially during adverse weather. Even cautious pedestrians face danger when vehicles lose control.

Slippery road conditions play a major role in many pedestrian crashes. Rain, snow, or ice can reduce tire traction within seconds. Drivers may struggle to brake or steer effectively. When vehicles slide, they often travel beyond the roadway and onto sidewalks.

Sidewalks offer pedestrians a sense of safety. However, they provide little protection from errant vehicles. When a car leaves the roadway, pedestrians face extreme vulnerability. These incidents often result in severe or fatal injuries.

Teen pedestrians face unique risks. Young people often travel on foot to school, work, or activities. Busy roadways near residential areas increase exposure. When a crash occurs, the consequences devastate families and entire communities.

Vehicle speed significantly affects crash outcomes. Sliding vehicles still carry momentum, even at moderate speeds. When a vehicle strikes a fixed object and continues forward, pedestrians face compounded danger. The resulting injuries often prove catastrophic.

Families who lose a child face unimaginable grief. Funeral expenses and emotional trauma arrive without warning. Parents and siblings often struggle with unanswered questions. A wrongful death claim may help families seek accountability and financial relief.

Such claims can address funeral costs, counseling expenses, and loss of future support. They also allow families to investigate what caused the crash. Legal action may help uncover whether negligence played a role.

Pedestrian injury cases often involve complex factors. Weather, roadway design, and driver behavior all matter. Insurance companies may attempt to minimize responsibility by blaming conditions alone. A thorough investigation helps establish the full picture.
