Pittsburgh, PA - DOT Worker Hurt in Vehicle Crash on I-279 near Mt Nebo

Pittsburgh, PA (May 17, 2025) – According to officers with the Pittsburgh Police Department, a PennDOT worker was taken to the hospital following a crash along a portion of the Parkway North on May 17.

PennDOT workers were picking up trash along Interstate 279 near the Mount Nebo exit in the left lane as the driver of a Tacoma truck passed another vehicle and crashed into the PennDOT worker's vehicle.

Police said one worker was inside the PennDOT truck and another was outside of the vehicle at the time of the crash. He said the impact of the crash pushed the work truck into the person who was standing outside.

The drivers of the Tacoma and PennDOT trucks were both evaluated on scene and later released. The PennDOT worker outside the vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officers added that the worker who was injured was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. However, no further details have been released in the interim. An investigation is ongoing, and police have asked any witnesses to step forward.
