Philadelphia, PA (October 28, 2025) – Authorities in Philadelphia are investigating a serious crash that occurred early Monday morning in the Chinatown area after a stolen vehicle collided with an ambulance transporting a patient to the hospital. The impact caused multiple injuries and significant damage to property before the suspects fled the scene.
According to reports from NBC 10 News, the incident took place around 2:00 a.m. near the intersection of 10th St and Vine St. Investigators say the stolen vehicle originated in Winslow Township, New Jersey, before crossing the bridge into Philadelphia. While attempting to evade police, the driver of the stolen car struck an ambulance that was en route to the hospital with an existing patient on board.
The collision caused the stolen car to crash through a nearby fence surrounding a construction site. The impact left the vehicles heavily damaged and scattered debris across the intersection. Three individuals were transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, including the patient who had already been inside the ambulance. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
According to Port Authority Police, officers had tried to stop the stolen vehicle earlier but did not engage in a high speed pursuit prior to the crash. After the collision, the suspects fled the scene on foot. Law enforcement agencies from both Pennsylvania and New Jersey are now collaborating to locate and identify those responsible.
Traffic in the Chinatown area was briefly restricted as emergency personnel cleared the scene and secured the damaged vehicles. Authorities continue to investigate the chain of events leading up to the crash.
We wish the victim and everyone involved a speedy recovery.
Incidents involving reckless or fleeing drivers have become increasingly concerning in urban areas like Philadelphia, where dense traffic and pedestrian activity heighten the risk of serious collisions. When a driver chooses to flee from law enforcement, they endanger not only themselves but also innocent motorists, emergency responders, and bystanders.
In cases such as this one, emergency vehicles are particularly vulnerable. Ambulances, police cruisers, and fire trucks often operate with lights and sirens, requiring nearby drivers to yield. However, when other motorists fail to obey traffic rules, or worse, engage in criminal behavior such as vehicle theft, these life saving crews face significant danger.
