Lebanon, PA - Child Killed, Four Injured in House Fire on Brandywine St

Lebanon, PA (September 13, 2024) – A 1-year-old boy was killed, and four other people were injured in a Lebanon house fire Friday morning.

The two-alarm blaze started shortly before 10:00 a.m. on the 1300 block of Brandywine Street. Authorities say a 59-year-old woman was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Burn Center with second-degree burns. A 5-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl are also being treated at Lehigh Valley Burn Center, according to officials. Their conditions are unknown.

The residents learned a young child was in an upstairs bedroom where investigators said the fire started. Though several witnesses and bystanders attempted to rescue the child, the fire burned too hot for access to the upper area of the home.

The area was blocked off for an extended period. Fire crews worked to bring the fire under control, which took at least an hour. However, the investigation into the circumstances of the fire continues, and witnesses were asked to contact Pennsylvania State Police fire marshals.

We offer our sincerest condolences to the deceased child's family. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.

Fatal House Fires in Pennsylvania

Residential fires take place every single day in Pennsylvania. Though some are quickly brought under control by fire crews, others blaze out of control and lead to extensive damage. Some fires lead to fatalities in those involved. In 2020, it was reported that approximately six people were killed out of every 1,000 fires throughout Pennsylvania. Losing somebody you love in a house fire or a commercial-related fire can be a devastating thing to experience.
