Lancaster County, PA (September 15, 2024) – A crash that closed the Pennsylvania Turnpike westbound at U.S. Route 222 on Saturday, September 14, has been confirmed fatal.
According to a Facebook post from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, as of 12:35 p.m. Saturday, all westbound traffic had to exit at Reading/exit 286 due to a crash at mile 268.4 approaching Lancaster/Lebanon and exit 266.
The Turnpike Commission has reported the crash as fatal. No other information has been provided at this time, and it's unclear if any other injured victims were involved. However, witnesses were asked to come forward as soon as possible; police confirmed that an investigation is still ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim's family. Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.
Our state witnesses thousands of vehicle accidents annually, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities for many drivers. When traveling on the multi-lane freeways and highly frequented interstates that cover our state, Pennsylvanians may be particularly worried about the hazards and risks of these serious accidents, just like residents of many other states. This is especially true on highways with higher speeds and a ton of traffic. As a result of the extensive network of highways and interstates that Pennsylvania has, it is unsurprising that our state experiences a significant amount of fatal and injury-causing collisions.
Moreover, accidents involving multiple drivers are even more likely to be catastrophic and even deadly. For example, in one recent year alone, 166,000 of these accidents occurred throughout the United States, around 4,700 of which resulted in deaths. Though Florida, Texas, and California were the top states for these accidents, Pennsylvania wasn't far behind. That said, those interested in filing claims against the insurance company of an at-fault driver in a Pennsylvania accident may face an uphill battle.
For these reasons and more, following a vehicle accident caused by another party's negligence, victims can and should take legal action with the help of a skilled attorney. If you've been hurt or lost your loved one in a preventable collision, you must reach out to a Lancaster County wrongful death lawyer as soon as possible.
