Hanover Township, PA (August 20, 2025) – A tractor-trailer crash shut down a stretch of Interstate 81 in Dauphin County on Wednesday, August 20, according to PennDOT.
The wreck happened in the northbound lanes in East Hanover Township around 12:45 p.m. A tractor-trailer was blocking all lanes of Interstate 81 northbound.
The northbound side of the interstate was closed between Exit 77 to Route 39/Manada Hill/Hershey and Exit 80 to Route 743/Grantville/Hershey for several hours. At this time, it's unclear how many vehicles were involved and if anyone was injured; that said, EMTs were spotted at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation in the meantime, and officers with the Hanover Township Police Department asked any witnesses to get in touch right away.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their complete and swift recovery.
Every year, thousands of vehicle accidents occur across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, many of which cause devastating injuries or tragic fatalities. Because of Pennsylvania’s vast network of highways and heavily trafficked interstates, truck accidents remain a particularly serious concern for residents.
Unfortunately, crashes involving large trucks are often catastrophic. Nationally, one recent year saw 166,833 truck accidents, with nearly 4,700 resulting in fatalities. While Florida, Texas, and California topped the list, Pennsylvania ranked close behind, with 10,000–12,000 truck accidents annually. These collisions resulted in 250–300 deaths and left 4,000–5,000 people injured.
In other words, victims do not deal with the average motorist in these claims. Unfortunately, many insurance firms are solely interested in limiting their financial exposure and maximizing their earnings. Additionally, the trucking corporations that victims typically face are usually well-funded, with an army of lawyers fighting for their interests.
Unlike typical car accident claims, truck accident cases are rarely straightforward. Victims and their families often find themselves facing powerful trucking corporations and their insurance carriers. These companies have substantial resources and teams of attorneys dedicated to minimizing payouts and protecting their bottom lines.
This means that injured drivers and grieving families are up against more than just another motorist’s insurance company—they are fighting corporate entities determined to reduce or deny compensation. For those injured in a truck accident—or families mourning a loved one’s sudden and wrongful death—legal action is often necessary to secure justice and fair compensation. A strong legal team can:
Investigate the accident and identify liable parties.
Handle negotiations with aggressive insurance carriers.
Pursue maximum compensation for medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and wrongful death damages.
Importantly, hiring an experienced Pennsylvania truck accident lawyer allows victims to focus on healing and rebuilding their lives rather than being overwhelmed by mounting bills and complex legal battles.
