Blair County, PA (July 20, 2026) – A 22-year-old man died following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 99 in Blair County on Sunday, July 19, according to authorities.

The Blair County Coroner’s Office responded to the crash near mile marker 40.7 at approximately 4:42 p.m. Officials identified the victim as Jason Sargent Jr., 22, of Markleton.

Pennsylvania State Police reported that Sargent was the only occupant of a Jeep Compass traveling at a very low rate of speed when it was struck from behind by a Dodge Ram truck.

The impact pushed the Jeep off the roadway into a grassy area. The driver and passenger of the Dodge were transported to UPMC Altoona with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by authorities.

What Steps Can Families Take After a Fatal Crash in Pennsylvania?

After a fatal crash in Pennsylvania, families may need to address several legal and financial matters while authorities continue investigating what happened.

During this difficult time, preserving important information, gathering available records, and learning about potential next steps can help families make informed decisions as they navigate the aftermath of a tragic accident.

While no two cases are the same, the evidence collected during the investigation can become an important part of understanding what occurred.

One of the first priorities may be collecting documents connected to the collision. Accident reports, medical records, insurance information, vehicle details, photographs, and witness information can provide valuable insight into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

These materials may help establish a timeline, identify contributing factors, and provide a clearer picture of the events before, during, and after the collision.

In addition to reviewing how the crash happened, families may also need to consider the financial losses that follow a fatal accident. Expenses such as emergency medical care, funeral and burial costs, property damage, and the loss of future income or household support can create significant challenges.

Maintaining detailed records of these losses, along with insurance correspondence and related expenses, may help when evaluating available claims under Pennsylvania law.

As insurance companies begin their reviews, questions may arise about liability, available coverage, and the documentation needed to support a potential claim. Keeping organized records and preserving evidence can help ensure important information remains available throughout the process.

These steps may also assist families in responding to requests for additional information or understanding how the investigation findings could affect their options.

An attorney familiar with Pennsylvania law can review the circumstances of a fatal collision, explain potential legal options, and help families understand the steps involved in pursuing a claim.

Legal guidance may also assist with evaluating evidence, communicating with insurance companies, identifying responsible parties, and determining how the facts of the crash may affect possible compensation.
