Bedford County, PA (June 6, 2026) – A 35-year-old man was killed after a distracted driver struck an escort vehicle that then collided with a tractor he was operating along Lincoln Hwy in Bedford County. The fatal crash occurred on Thursday, June 4.

Jarred Bulger, of Everett Borough, was operating a John Deere tractor alongside Lincoln Hwy westbound and was being followed by an escort vehicle when a 2007 Pontiac G6 struck the escort vehicle from behind. The impact pushed the escort vehicle into the tractor, throwing Bulger from the machine. He was taken to Bedford Hospital before being airlifted to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:17 p.m.

Initial reports indicated the Pontiac's driver was distracted by a cellphone at the time of the wreck. Whether the escort vehicle driver or the Pontiac driver sustained injuries was not confirmed in the initial report on the accident.

Bedford County State Police are investigating the crash.

We extend our deepest condolences to Jarred Bulger's family and all those who loved him.

What Legal Options Do Families Have After a Distracted Driving Death in Bedford County, PA?

When a person is killed by a distracted driver, surviving family members have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under Pennsylvania law, and that process can move forward independently of any criminal or traffic investigation.

Distracted driving, particularly the use of a cellphone behind the wheel, is not only dangerous but legally actionable in Pennsylvania, and evidence of phone use at the time of a crash can be a significant factor in both criminal and civil proceedings.

The financial impact of losing a family member to a distracted driver can be both immediate and far-reaching. Funeral and burial costs, medical expenses incurred before death, and the lasting loss of a loved one's income, support, and companionship are among the losses that may be considered in a wrongful death claim under Pennsylvania law.

When a crash involves a chain-reaction sequence where a distracted driver's initial impact sets off a series of collisions, questions about the full scope of liability can be more complex, and identifying all parties who may bear responsibility becomes an important early step.

Evidence of distracted driving can be particularly powerful in a civil wrongful death claim. Phone records, data extracted from the vehicle, witness accounts, and any findings from the state police investigation may all be relevant to establishing negligence.

Because some of this evidence can be difficult to obtain or preserve without legal intervention, consulting a Pennsylvania wrongful death lawyer promptly after a fatal distracted driving crash can make a meaningful difference in the strength of a family's case. An attorney may be able to help families secure that evidence, navigate the claims process, and ensure that any resolution reached reflects the full scope of their losses.
