Centerville, PA (September 22, 2024) – A deadly two-vehicle collision in Upper Mount Bethel Township left one woman dead and two people injured on Saturday, September 20.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast, the crash occurred at about 7 p.m. near the intersection of Deer Run Road and Riverton Road in Northampton County, just north of Easton. Investigators say a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west on Deer Run Rd while a 2022 Volkswagen Taos was heading north on Riverton Rd.
The vehicles collided, resulting in fatal injuries to a 63-year-old passenger in the Volkswagen. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the drivers of both the Malibu and the Taos were injured in the crash. They were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The State Police Motor Squad is leading the investigation to determine the cause of the crash. More details are expected as the inquiry continues.
We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased victims. We also wish those hurt a swift recovery.
Car accidents remain a leading cause of serious injuries and fatalities across Pennsylvania. Rural intersections, such as the one in Upper Mount Bethel Township, often pose unique risks due to limited visibility, higher travel speeds, and fewer traffic controls. These factors increase the likelihood of severe collisions, especially when vehicles strike at an angle.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, thousands of crashes occur statewide each year, resulting in hundreds of fatalities and tens of thousands of injuries. Many of these crashes involve contributing factors such as distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, or driver inexperience. Sadly, passengers often bear the brunt of these accidents, as seen in this tragic case.
When a fatal crash occurs, families are left not only grieving but also facing sudden financial challenges. Funeral expenses, lost wages, and the emotional toll of losing a loved one can place an overwhelming burden on survivors. In situations like this, consulting a wrongful death or car accident attorney may help families understand their rights and options for pursuing compensation.
