Coraopolis, PA (August 21, 2025) – A man was struck by a truck and killed Thursday afternoon in Coraopolis, Allegheny County, police said.
News footage showed the incident near the corner of 5th Avenue and Main Street. Coraopolis police Chief Jason Stewart said the accident happened around 3:25 p.m. A tractor-trailer was stopped at the red light on Fifth Avenue, Stewart said. He said when the light turned green, the driver began driving and did not see the man in front of the truck.
The crash is being investigated by the South Hills Area Council of Governments accident reconstruction team. Stewart said the driver was being cooperative. Authorities are asking anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact them.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased man's family members.
Pedestrian accidents in Pennsylvania often stem from preventable causes such as distracted driving, speeding, running red lights or stop signs, failing to yield at crosswalks, and impaired driving. Dangerous conditions like poor lighting, reduced visibility, and slick or icy roads—especially common during Pennsylvania’s long winter months—can further increase the likelihood of a serious or even fatal collision.
Pedestrian accidents are among the most devastating types of collisions, and unfortunately, they occur far too often across the state. From busy intersections in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to quiet neighborhood crosswalks, pedestrians face significant danger when drivers fail to follow traffic laws or remain alert behind the wheel.
Under Pennsylvania law, injured pedestrians have the right to seek compensation when a driver’s negligence causes harm. Potential damages may include medical expenses, lost wages, rehabilitation costs, and pain and suffering. In fatal cases, surviving family members may be able to file a wrongful death claim to recover funeral costs, lost income, and other related losses.
After a pedestrian accident, quick action is essential. Seek immediate medical care, even if you feel uninjured at first. Call the police to file an official accident report. If possible, gather witness contact information, take photos of the crash scene, and document any visible injuries. These steps can help preserve evidence and strengthen a legal claim.
Pennsylvania imposes a two-year statute of limitations for personal injury and wrongful death claims, making it important to begin the process as soon as possible. Whether the driver remained at the scene or fled, having skilled legal representation can significantly impact the outcome of your case.
