York Co, PA – Three Drivers Hospitalized After Six-Car Collision on I-83

York County, PA (January 7, 2024) – On Tuesday night, a six-vehicle accident on I-83 created significant delays during rush hour traffic, and authorities have since released further details about those involved.

Two separate accidents on Interstate 83 occurred as a result of an initial collision, as reported by the Pennsylvania State Police in York. According to PennDOT and PSP troopers, the accidents occurred in the northbound lanes approaching Exit 24. Officers say the apparent chain-reaction collision took place when three vehicles stopped for the traffic backup, and three other motorists traveling in the rear failed to brake in time.

Additionally, three of those drivers were taken to York Hospital for injuries, though their current conditions are not known. PSP added that I-83 was closed for about one hour and fifteen minutes as officials conducted their on-scene inquiry. It’s unclear if citations are pending, but an investigation remains active in the meantime.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their complete recovery.

Car Accidents in Pennsylvania

Every year, Pennsylvania witnesses over 100,000 motor vehicle collisions. A substantial proportion, nearly 60 percent, of these reported incidents result in injuries to at least one individual involved. In many cases, these car crashes are entirely avoidable. Unfortunately, we continue to witness individuals left suffering due to drivers who operate their vehicles with recklessness and negligence.

Some of the primary contributing factors to motor vehicle crashes within our state include:

  • Driving under the influence
  • Driving while distracted, like texting or eating while driving
  • Reckless behavior, such as weaving in and out of lanes and tailgating
  • Traveling at excessive speeds

All too often, drivers fail to comprehend the severe and significant consequences of their actions until it is too late. Individuals affected by car crashes frequently endure severe spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, bone fractures, and other substantial harm that permanently alters their lives. The aftermath for victims involves overwhelming physical, emotional, and financial burdens. Many victims find themselves undergoing extensive care in the aftermath of their accidents.
