Two Women Die in Car Accident (October 18, 2007)
Eleanor McCarthy, of Guilford, and 71-year-old Iris Cooper, of Ambler, Pennsylvania were sitting in traffic between exit 70 and 71 on interstate 95 in Old Lyme Wednesday afternoon at rest behind a tractor-trailer. Little did they realize that the approaching dump truck would end their lives.
In a report from NBC News, State police said a tractor-trailer was stopped the right lane of the highway and because of a traffic backup, McCarthy’s 2003 Ford Mustang was stopped behind it when a dump truck came up behind it and hit it. The collision happened just before 2 p.m.
The impact sent the Mustang into the back of the tractor-trailer, the car burst into flames, killing both occupants.
