A tractor trailer accident in Susquehanna County caused multiple vehicles to crash today, shutting down Interstate 81 lanes for more than 4 hours. Icy road conditions were suspected to be contributors to the crash, according to police on the scene. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and found at least 7 tractor trailers involved in the wreck and multiple patients who needed to be removed from their vehicles. There were a few injured patients who needed medical treatment. Luckily, no lives were lost.
In the tractor trailer accident, emergency responders found that there were challenges caused by icy road conditions. A wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain occurred the night before in Pennsylvania, making these bad conditions. There was very little access to the patients due to the harsh conditions of the vehicles after the accident, with many damages.
What happens in cases where truck accidents have been caused by bad weather? Bad weather is not anybody’s fault, but it is important that truck drivers abide by all rules of the road to protect others from harm at all times. This is because they are in charge of navigating much larger vehicles than any other vehicle on the roadways. Sometimes it is the driver’s actions within the icy conditions that cause an accident, such as speeding when they’re not supposed to, or following drivers too closely and braking on ice, even though it can lead to a serious accident when control is lost.
Because truck drivers can still be found negligent even in icy conditions, it is important to understand how you can hold them liable for your injuries. You may be able to prove that a truck driver did not abide by their duty to protect you and other drivers from harm, and it caused your injuries, which led to damages like medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and so much more. Just like the tractor trailer accident in Susquehanna County today, there could also be many parties liable in your accident, which will be found through an investigation.
