Shippensburg, PA (March 12, 2023) – Around 3:30 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, March 12, one person sustained injuries in an accident in Shippensburg.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened on Walnut Bottom Road at the M&T Bank. Police confirmed that a police cruiser was attempting to exit the parking lot for the bank when the vehicle’s front end struck a passing Mazda traveling through the area. The Mazda spun out of control and struck a sign to a motel in the area. Both vehicles sustained severe damage in the collision.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Mazda sustained a knee injury due to the accident. They were taken to the hospital for treatment, though their conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area for some time. Police did not say if the trooper who caused the accident would be facing any disciplinary charges due to their role in the accident.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing. Police will update with new information as it becomes available.
