Shippensburg, PA – One Killed in Fatal Truck Collision on I-81

Shippensburg, PA (May 17, 2023) – On Wednesday, May 17, one person lost their life in a fatal truck accident that took place on a highway in Shippensburg.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened sometime in the morning on I-81 at exit 5 to the Greencastle area. Police confirmed that several vehicles were traveling in the northbound lanes when they were involved in a collision due to reasons that are not entirely known. The involved vehicles included an SUV, a camper, and at least one tractor-trailer. All of the vehicles sustained extensive damage due to the accident.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One person, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. It is not known if anyone else was hurt in the accident.

All northbound lanes of traffic were blocked in the area of the collision. Police detoured traffic off of the highway around the exit for some time.

No further details have been released, but the investigation continues.
