Salford Twp, PA (December 12, 2023) – State police have identified the man killed in a crash on the shoulder of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Montgomery County on Friday.
Sean Terwilliger, 40, of Allentown, died in the crash on Friday morning in the southbound lanes of I-476 in Montgomery County, between Quakertown and Lansdale, said Pennsylvania State Police on Monday. The crash happened just past the construction zone, soon after the highway opened up to three lanes. Officers said that Terwilliger was the passenger in a Ford utility truck that had pulled over on the shoulder to check a possibly unsecured load, police said. He was standing on the shoulder at the back of the truck when a tractor-trailer drifted off the road and hit him, police said. The tractor-trailer also sideswiped the utility truck and then pulled over. The big rig's driver was distracted, police alleged. Police did not say if the tractor-trailer driver, a 31-year-old from Michigan, would face charges, though an investigation is still active.
