S Abington Twp, PA – Mary Port Killed in Pedestrian Accident at N Blvd Sheetz
South Abington Township, PA (June 24, 2023) – A woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in South Abington Township on the evening of Thursday, June 22.
According to Lackawanna County officials, the accident happened around 5:15 p.m. at 1100 Northern Boulevard at a local Sheetz gas station. Police confirmed that an elderly pedestrian was walking in the area when she was suddenly struck by an SUV. She was allegedly headed out of the convenience store when the driver left a gas pump, striking her. It is believed that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, identified as 76-year-old Mary Port, was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center with critical injuries. She was tragically pronounced deceased while there.
The area was blocked for some time after the collision. Police did not say if the driver will be facing charges due to the accident.
