Quakertown, PA – Two Hurt in Truck Accident on PA Trnpke

Quakertown, PA (April 15, 2024) – According to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, all lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Quakertown have reopened after a dump truck crashed and overturned.

The accident happened on the Northeast Extension between Quakertown (Exit 44) and Lansdale (Exit 31) around 7:00 a.m. on April 15. Pennsylvania State Police said the dump truck overturned after a four-vehicle crash around the mile marker 39 southbound. State police said the dump truck and another truck were stopped on the shoulder when a tractor-trailer swerved after its collision detection system began going off.

State police said the dump truck driver tried to avoid being struck by the tractor-trailer, but the truck tipped over and struck a third vehicle. The third vehicle then struck a fourth vehicle. The drivers of the third and fourth cars were taken to the hospital, while several others were assessed at the scene. Their conditions are unknown, but an investigation is ongoing in the interim.

Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.

Injury-Causing Collisions in Pennsylvania

Our state is home to thousands of vehicle accidents annually, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities for many drivers. Like residents of many other states, Pennsylvanians may be particularly concerned about the dangers and risks of multi-driver accidents, especially when traversing the multi-lane roadways and heavily trafficked interstates spanning our state. Of course, Pennsylvania sees a lot of truck traffic because of the state’s vast system of roads and interstates.

In addition, incidents that include several drivers or heavy-duty vehicles, such as trucks, have a significant probability of becoming catastrophic and even fatal on these roadways. For example, at least 166,000 truck accidents occurred throughout the United States in just one year. Approximately 4,678 of these were fatalities as a consequence of these serious wrecks. And even worse, even though Florida, Texas, and California were the states with the highest number of accidents, Pennsylvania was not too far behind.

Pennsylvania had around 10,000 to 12,000 truck accidents in 2022, meaning that our state ranked fourth for these serious semi-truck collisions. Approximately 250 to 300 people lost their lives in these incidents, and more than 4,000 to 5,000 were injured. That said, those interested in filing claims against the insurance company of an at-fault truck driver in a Pennsylvania truck accident may face an uphill battle. In other words, victims do not deal with the average motorist in these claims.

Regrettably, many insurance companies are concerned with minimizing their financial liability and increasing their profits to benefit their own bottom line. Furthermore, since trucking companies are involved, victims are often up against well-funded enterprises that have an army of attorneys fighting for their interests, leaving victims and their families to attempt to cover their losses out of their pocket.

For these reasons and more, following a vehicle accident caused by another party’s negligence, victims can and should take legal action with the help of a skilled attorney. Accident victims must contact a Quakertown personal injury lawyer as soon as possible.
