Pottsville, PA – Fatal Tractor-Trailer Pile-Up Accident on I-81

Pottsville, PA (March 28, 2022) – On Monday, March 28, a fatal tractor-trailer accident involving around 40 to 60 vehicles took place in Pottsville.

According to police, the accident happened at 10:30 a.m. on I-81. The accident allegedly took place due to snow on the road in the area. An out-of-control tractor-trailer slammed into a dump truck and several other vehicles quickly became involved in the chain-reaction collision. The vehicles spun around on the messy roads, creating a mess of snow and fog in the area. Several vehicles caught on fire and many sustained severe damages.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Multiple victims sustained a variety of injuries as a result. A total of three or more victims were also pronounced dead at the scene due to their traumatic injuries.

It took several hours for police to clear the scene, which led to enormous delays in the area.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing. Police will update as soon as more information becomes available.
