Pine Grove, PA – Man Killed in Fatal Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-81

Pine Grove, PA (July 16, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal tractor-trailer accident that took place on a highway in Pine Grove on Friday morning, July 15.

According to local officials, the accident happened around 7:58 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-81 around the area of mile marker 100. A Dodge Caravan was traveling in the area when it became involved in a rear-end collision with a tractor-trailer due to reasons that are not yet known. The accident allegedly took place due to a slow-moving vehicle that was in front of the other two. The Caravan became trapped under the back of the truck, which led to extensive damages.

Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Dodge, identified as a 54-year-old man, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. It is not known if the tractor-trailer driver was hurt in the accident.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for an extended period of time after the accident. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
