Philadelphia, PA (August 27, 2025) – Two pedestrians were hit by a car on Tuesday night in North Philadelphia, leaving one person critically injured, according to police.

The crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. at Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, near Temple University. Police said one victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while the other pedestrian was treated at the scene. Following the collision, Temple University issued an alert urging people to avoid the area.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene as the Philadelphia Police Accident Investigation Division continues its inquiry into the incident. However, officials asked witnesses to come forward.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in Pennsylvania

Pedestrian accidents are a serious and ongoing problem across Pennsylvania, often caused by distracted driving, speeding, failure to yield at crosswalks, running red lights, or impaired driving. Dangerous roadway conditions—such as poor lighting, reduced visibility, or slick and icy roads during Pennsylvania’s long winters—only increase the risk of a devastating crash.

Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents are among the most severe traffic incidents. From busy intersections in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to residential streets in smaller towns, pedestrians remain highly vulnerable. With no protection against the force of a vehicle, even low-speed collisions can lead to traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones, or fatal injuries.

Under Pennsylvania law, pedestrians injured by a negligent driver have the right to pursue compensation. Recoverable damages may include medical expenses, lost wages, rehabilitation costs, and pain and suffering. In fatal accidents, surviving family members may file a wrongful death claim to recover funeral expenses, lost income, and other financial losses tied to their loved one’s death.

After an accident, quick action is critical. Seek immediate medical care, even if you don’t believe you are seriously injured—some injuries develop over time. Call the police to file an official report, gather contact information from witnesses, take photos of the crash scene, and document any visible injuries. These steps can preserve evidence and strengthen a future claim.

Victims should also be aware that Pennsylvania enforces a two-year statute of limitations for both personal injury and wrongful death claims. Failing to act within this timeframe can bar recovery entirely, making it important to consult with a pedestrian accident lawyer as soon as possible.
