Philadelphia, PA – Police Officer Injured in Pedestrian Crash Involving Stolen Vehicle on Wingohocking St

Philadelphia, PA (August 17, 2023) – Around noon on Thursday, August 17, a police officer and two others were injured in a Philadelphia pedestrian accident.

According to Philadelphia officials, the accident happened in the Nicetown section of the city. Police confirmed that police started to pursue the driver of a stolen pickup truck around noon at 4400 Germantown Avenue. The pickup truck collided with an SUV, causing it to flip onto its side. The driver of the stolen vehicle continued onward and jumped out of the moving vehicle at Wingohocking Street. The pickup truck, however, kept driving and struck an officer. The officer was pinned to a utility pole due to the collision.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local Philadelphia responders were present at the scene after the accident. The female officer, as well as two other people injured in the first collision, were all taken to Einstein Medical Center. Their injuries are not currently known, but they are all expected to recover.

A large portion of the road was blocked off due to the severity of the accident.

The driver who caused the accident in the stolen pickup truck fled the scene. Police did not say if he was caught at this time.
