Philadelphia, PA – Police Injured in Head-on Collision on 59th St

Philadelphia, PA (January 16, 2023) – Around 7 p.m. on the evening of Saturday, January 14, a head-on crash with injuries took place at a Philadelphia intersection.

According to officials, the accident happened at the intersection of 59th Street and Kingsessing Avenue. Police confirmed that an officer was headed west in a police cruiser when the driver of a Ford Taurus suddenly slammed into the cruiser at the intersection. Police claim that the driver of the Taurus was disregarding a traffic signal before the accident took place.

Several responders were dispatched to the scene, including Philadelphia fire crews and paramedics. The officer sustained injuries and was treated at the scene. He is expected to be okay. The driver of the Taurus tried to resist arrest and was tased after punching a responding officer in the back of the head. He was hospitalized as well, though his condition is not yet known.

Due to the severity of the accident, the road was blocked at the intersection for some time. This led to delays until the scene was cleared.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.

We would like to offer our warmest thoughts and prayers to the officer injured in this accident with hopes of a full recovery.
