Philadelphia, PA – Off-Duty Officer Killed in Fatal Accident on Bustleton Ave

Philadelphia, PA (June 25, 2022) – On Thursday, June 23, an off-duty officer was killed in a fatal car accident that took place at an intersection in Philadelphia.

According to Philadelphia Police, the accident happened before midnight at the intersection of Bustleton Avenue and Rennard Street. Police confirmed that an 18-year-old driver was traveling in the area in a BMW with two teenage passengers. The driver was allegedly traveling at high speeds when their vehicle slammed into a Hyundai that was being driven by a 50-year-old police officer who had just finished their night shift. He was in his personal vehicle when it was T-boned by the BMW.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The officer was rushed to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital with severe injuries. He was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival. None of the people inside the BMW sustained injuries in the accident.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes at the intersection for some time after the accident. The scene was quickly cleared by police.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
