Philadelphia, PA – Man Killed in Tow Truck Accident at Chelten Ave & Ardleigh St
Philadelphia, PA (September 19, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal tow truck accident at a Philadelphia intersection on Sunday morning, September 18.
According to Philadelphia Police, the accident happened around 2:45 a.m. at the intersection of Chelten Avenue and Ardleigh Street. A tow truck was speeding down Chelten and drove into the intersection at the same time as a passenger vehicle, which caused them to collide with one another. The tow truck T-boned the vehicle, which led to debris and glass scattered all over the middle of the intersection.
Several local responders in Philadelphia were immediately dispatched to the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as a 51-year-old man, was ejected from his vehicle. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
Police confirmed that, following the initial collision, the tow truck driver slammed into at least three other vehicles that were parked in the area. The driver then got out of the vehicle and fled the scene.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for a period of time. This led to delays until the scene was cleared.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues at this time.
We would like to offer our warmest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of the victim whose life was lost in this collision.
