Philadelphia, PA – Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident at 40th St & Sansom St
Philadelphia, PA (March 19, 2023) – Around 10:30 p.m. on the night of Saturday, March 18, a hit-and-run pedestrian accident happened at an intersection in Philadelphia.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened at the intersection of 40th Street and Sansom Street. Police confirmed that a University of Pennsylvania police officer was investigating two people inside a vehicle. As he was doing so, the driver started to speed away, hitting the officer intentionally. The driver, who was in a black Ford Mustang, fled the scene without stopping to check on the officer.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The officer was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He has since been released from the hospital.
A large portion of the road was blocked in the area of the intersection for some time. Police did not confirm if they caught the responsible driver as of yet.
No further details have been released, but the investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
We want to offer our warmest sympathies and prayers to the officer recovering from injuries caused by the accident.
Pedestrian Accidents in Pennsylvania
1Pedestrians have no protection from harm in the event of an accident, which means that they are likely to sustain serious injuries or even be killed in an accident. In 2019, it was reported that 154 pedestrians were killed in Pennsylvania accidents, and 4,100 individuals sustained injuries. Pedestrians are supposed to be offered special protections on our roads from drivers, but drivers are not always aware of these parties. If you have been hurt in a pedestrian accident that is not your fault, you should speak with an attorney who has handled these types of claims in the past.
