Philadelphia, PA – Darlene Gaston Killed in Pedestrian Accident on 49th St
Philadelphia, PA (March 16, 2023) – A woman was killed in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident at a Philadelphia intersection on the night of Tuesday, March 14.
According to Philadelphia Police, the accident happened around 8:18 p.m. at the intersection of 49th Street and Lancaster Avenue. Police confirmed that a female pedestrian was walking in the area when she started to cross the street. She was suddenly struck by the driver of a white Mitsubishi who was speeding at the time. The pedestrian was then thrown into traffic where she was struck by a second vehicle. The driver of the Mitsubishi crashed after the accident and fled the scene on foot.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian was tragically pronounced deceased after the accident. She has since been identified as 58-year-old Darlene Gaston. Nobody else sustained injuries in the collision.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for a period of time after the accident.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision continues.
