Philadelphia, PA – Boat Accident Involving Drunk Operator Leads to Injuries on Schuylkill River

Philadelphia, PA (July 15, 2023) – At 7 p.m. on Saturday night, July 15, a boating accident involving a drunk operator took place on a river in Philadelphia.

According to Philadelphia Police, the incident happened on the Schuylkill River near the area of Grays Ferry Avenue and the local Grays Ferry neighborhood. A boat driver was operating a boat with multiple passengers while under the influence. He crashed into a concrete pillar supporting the Grays Ferry Avenue bridge after losing control due to unknown reasons.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to assist those in need. A total of seven adult passengers, a baby, and a toddler were all taken to local hospitals for treatment of injuries caused by the accident. Their conditions are not yet known. Police confirmed, however, that the injured victims are expected to make a recovery.

The operator of the boat was arrested after being found intoxicated at the time of the accident. His current charges have not yet been released.
