Reports from authorities show that Emily Watson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was struck by a UPMC shuttle bus at the intersection of Sutherland Drive and Terrace Street. The incident prompted authorities to close the roadway near the Petersen Events Center.
The pedestrian was severely hurt in the crash. Bystanders performed CPR on the victim until firefighters arrived. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities confirmed that she passed away after arriving. At this time, investigations into the crash are underway.
We offer our sympathies to the family of Emily Watson.
Every year, tens of thousands of pedestrians in Pennsylvania are left with significant injuries as a result of automobile accidents. Traumatic injuries to the spine, brain, and even internal organs are all too common, forcing victims to undergo extensive medical care.
The truth is the vast majority of automobile crashes can be avoided. Negligent and reckless drivers are a common cause of traffic collisions in our state, resulting in serious injuries to other road users. Intoxicated drivers, distracted motorists, and those who fail to yield are all major causes of vehicle collisions in Pennsylvania, many of which result in serious injuries.
