Newport, PA – Man Killed in Fatal Train Accident on Lower Bailey Rd

Newport, PA (December 7, 2022) – Around 6 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, December 6, a man was killed in a fatal train accident that took place in Newport.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened on the train tracks near Lower Bailey Road. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling in the area when his vehicle went off the side of the road, causing it to crash into an embankment due to icy road conditions. The vehicle rolled several times, and the driver got out onto the railroad tracks. A train conductor did not see the man in time and slammed into him as a result.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The 26-year-old pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to traumatic injuries. Nobody on the train sustained injuries in the accident.

The roadway and railroad tracks were blocked in the area for some time.
