New Stanton, PA (September 15, 2020) – On September 10, a woman was killed in a pedestrian accident that took place at an intersection in New Stanton.
State Police confirmed that the accident took place around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Rachel Drive and Bair Boulevard. The accident happened when a driver was involved in a crash and became stuck on a curb in the area. The driver then started to put the vehicle in reverse where they drove around the roundabout.
All of a sudden, the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking in the area. The pedestrian has since been identified as a 44-year-old named Susan Clawson. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle went off the side and drove over a yield sign where it came to a rest at the local embankment. Police confirmed that the driver, whose name has not yet been released, was driving intoxicated at the time of the accident.
The area of the roundabout was closed down for four hours while the scene was cleared.
Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
