New Cumberland, PA (May 31, 2023) – Two people sustained injuries in a plane crash that took place when a plane struck a utility truck in New Cumberland on Wednesday afternoon, May 31.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the accident happened around 2:35 p.m. on the offramp of the Pennsylvania Turnpike near the area of the Capital City Airport. Two people were allegedly inside a single-engine Cessna 180 plane when it suddenly crashed due to unknown reasons on the turnpike, striking a utility truck. The accident led to extensive damage to the truck and plane.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One of the passengers of the plane was rushed to the hospital by a medical helicopter for treatment of serious injuries. The other person inside the plane was also injured but was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The driver of the truck was not injured. None of the victims have yet been identified.

Due to the severity of the accident, a large portion of the roadway was blocked off for some time after the accident as police and hazmat crews cleared the scene.
