Monongahela, PA (February 22, 2022) – One person was killed in a fatal train accident that took place in Monongahela on Saturday afternoon, February 19.

According to Washington County Police, the accident happened around 2:20 p.m. at the Fourth Street and Railroad Street crossing. A driver identified as 22-year-old Jaimyn Rauchfuss was traveling in a passenger vehicle in the area. The driver went across the railroad crossing when their vehicle was suddenly struck by a passing train.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Rauchfuss was severely injured in the accident. She was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to these injuries.

Witnesses spoke with police and said that they heard train brakes before the collision. However, there are no railroad crossing arms in the area to alert drivers of an oncoming train.

The area was blocked for an extended period of time following the accident.
