Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Pennsylvania
Fatal auto accidents claim the lives of more than 1,000 people annually in our state. Despite the fact that there are several laws in place to protect pedestrians here in Pennsylvania, we continue to see these victims, in particular, left with serious injuries or killed as a result of driver negligence. There are several factors that continue to contribute to these fatal crashes every year.
Speeding motorists are by far one of the most common causes of pedestrian accidents that we see here in the United States. In Pennsylvania, it is all too common for pedestrians to be severely harmed or killed as a result of drivers who are speeding. When motorists are driving their vehicles too fast for road conditions, they are likely to lose control of their vehicles and strike others nearby.
Impairment is another common factor in many fatal crashes that take place in our state. Drivers who are impaired may swerve out of their lanes and strike pedestrians who are traveling nearby. Impairment may also impact their ability to make responsible decisions when approaching intersections, stop signs, or while traveling near pedestrians.
Distractions are also one of the top causes of serious and fatal pedestrian crashes across our state. Given the fact that more and more drivers are utilizing technology while behind the wheel, we continue to see the number of people severely harmed or killed as a result of drivers who are texting, talking on the phone, or even browsing the Internet while behind the wheel.
