Lititz, PA – Two Killed in DUI Tractor-Trailer Collision on Pennsylvania Tpke
Lititz, PA (December 27, 2022) – Around 9:38 p.m. on the night of Friday, December 23, a DUI tractor-trailer collision took place on a highway in Lititz.
According to Bowmansville Police, the accident happened on the Pennsylvania Turnpike around the area of mile marker 291. Police confirmed that a tractor-trailer driver was traveling on the wrong side of the road when the driver slammed into a Ford F-250 pickup truck head-on. Both vehicles were extensively damaged as a result of the collision. From there, a third vehicle slammed into the first two vehicles when they were unable to stop in time.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Two women inside the Ford F-250 truck were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as Mariana Llivipuma and 39-year-old Nubia Llivipuma, who were sisters from Ecuador. A third man sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The driver of the tractor-trailer allegedly got out of their vehicle and fled the scene on foot. They got into another vehicle but sustained a medical emergency and had to be taken to Reading Hospital. The driver has since been arrested for driving the truck under the influence.
No further details have been released at this time, but the investigation continues. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victims who lost their lives in this accident.
Truck Accidents in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania has been experiencing more and more truck accidents over recent years in Pennsylvania. In 2015, it was reported that approximately 7,465 big truck crashes happened, which led to about 130 fatalities. Because tractor-trailers are so large compared to other vehicles, they are capable of causing extensive harm in an accident involving much smaller vehicles. Losing somebody you love in a fatal truck accident can be a life-altering event. If you have lost someone close to you in an accident and wonder where you can turn, it is crucial that you speak with a dedicated attorney.
The aftermath of a truck crash can be a challenging thing to face, especially if somebody you love has been taken from you. Truck drivers are always expected to abide by the rules of the road so that other drivers and passengers on our roads can be kept safe from harm. However, this is not always the case. Truck drivers still engage in careless acts such as the following:
- Falling asleep at the wheel due to too many hours spent on the road
- Speeding
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
