A fatal industrial accident occurred in Bensalem, Pennsylvania earlier this week.
A 57-year-old employee was killed when a steel beam fell on him around noon on Monday at a Samuel Grossi & Sons steel mill on State Road.
According to Bensalem Public Safety Director Fred Harran, other workers found the man’s body under the beam on Monday afternoon.
While the worker has not been identified, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has said it will begin an investigation into the accident.
Grossi is the largest fabricator and erector of steel in Philadelphia at 20 tons per year.
Every year, there are nearly 5,000 fatal workplace injuries, including many involving construction accidents. Workers over 45 account for 58% of all workplace fatalities and falling objects are the leading cause of deaths.
