Harrisburg, PA – Man Killed in Fatal Tractor-Trailer Collision on I-81Pa Accident News
Harrisburg, PA (July 23, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal tractor-trailer collision that happened on a highway in Harrisburg on Friday night, July 22.
Public officials released information in the accident confirming that the first calls came in around 11:39 p.m. When Pennsylvania State Police arrived at the scene, they found that a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle were involved in a collision in the southbound lanes of I-81 around the area of mile marker 77. It is believed that a tractor-trailer was stopped in the left lane due to roadwork being conducted. A driver traveling in a passenger vehicle allegedly did not see the truck and slammed into its rear end, sustaining severe damages.
Responders, including Harrisburg fire crews and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the truck, identified as 56-year-old Abdusamed Osman, was not injured in the accident. However, the 37-year-old driver of the passenger vehicle was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The roadway was completely blocked until approximately 2:40 a.m. Police cleared the scene and towed the damaged vehicles from the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
We offer our warmest thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of the deceased victim at this time.
Fatal Truck Accidents in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is no stranger to truck accidents, which are known for being some of the most horrific accidents on our roads. Because tractor-trailers can weigh up to 80,000 or more pounds, they are capable of causing extensive harm when they happen. In 2015, it was reported that 7,465 truck accidents took place in Pennsylvania, with approximately 130 of them leading to fatalities.
