Harrisburg, PA – Man Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on 17th St
Harrisburg, PA (July 9, 2023) – Around 9 p.m. on the night of Saturday, July 8, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident near a Harrisburg intersection.
According to the Harrisburg Bureau of Police, the accident happened on 17th Street around the area of Mulberry Street. Police confirmed that a man was walking in the area when he was suddenly struck by a driver who was allegedly inside a 2005-2006 BMW X5. The driver immediately fled the scene after the accident.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Harrisburg responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has since been identified as an adult male, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene even though life-saving efforts were attempted. Nobody else was injured in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for some time after the collision. Police did not say if they found the driver, but they did identify the vehicle and said that it had extensive front-end damage due to the accident.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will update with new information as it becomes available.
