Harrisburg, PA – Individual Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on I-81Pa Accident News
Harrisburg, PA (April 11, 2022) – One person was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident on a highway in Harrisburg on Monday morning, April 11.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened around 9 a.m.in the southbound lanes of I-81 around the area of US-22. A pickup truck driven by an off-duty East Pennsboro police officer was traveling in the area when the driver lost control, slamming into a disabled box truck that was parked on the shoulder of the road. The box truck then slammed into the individual who was outside the vehicle, trying to repair it.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian who was struck by the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger inside the box truck, as well as the driver of the pickup truck, were hospitalized with injuries but are expected to recover.
The roadway was blocked in the area for several hours as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
