Halifax, PA – Stephen Gimmi Killed in Fatal Car Accident on PA-147

Halifax, PA (March 16, 2022) – On Wednesday morning, March 16, a man was killed in a fatal car accident that took place on a major roadway in Halifax.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened around 4:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes of PA-147 near the area of Peters Mountain Road. Police confirmed that 43-year-old Rindy Martin was traveling at a high rate of speed on the roadway when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle while going around a curve in the road. This caused him to cross the center line of traffic, colliding with the front of a vehicle driven by 43-year-old Stephen Gimmi. Gimmi’s vehicle became airborne and landed on a guardrail alongside the road.

Police confirmed that, after Martin struck the vehicle, his own car struck the guardrail as well and then burst into flames. A witness was able to pull Martin out of his vehicle through the sunroof. However, Gimmi was trapped in his vehicle.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene to help. Gimmi was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Martin was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, though his current condition is not yet known.

Police did not say if any charges are being brought at this time. The accident was so severe that the roadway was blocked for several hours.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
