Glenolden, PA (July 16, 2020) – Early this morning, a woman was killed in a fatal car accident that took place at an intersection in Glenolden.
Officials in Delaware County confirmed that the accident took place around 1 a.m. this morning. Officers first spotted a Ford Escape driving erratically around the MacDade Boulevard area. The driver of the vehicle was later identified as 26-year-old Anthony Jones from Chester.
Police officers immediately activated their emergency lights so that they could pull over the Escape but Jones pulled away after he noticed an officer getting out of the vehicle.
Jones then pulled into a parking lot for a local McDonald’s but sped away from police as soon as they got out of their vehicle for the second time. His vehicle slammed into a police vehicle in the drive-thru lane of the McDonald’s and sped off onto MacDade Boulevard. The SUV then collided into a vehicle at the intersection of MacDade and Oak Lane.
A woman, who was a passenger in the other vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the same vehicle was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Jones got out of his vehicle and fled the scene of the accident on foot. Police discovered that he had two women and three children in his vehicle, identified as a 3-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a 7-year-old. Numerous people in the vehicle were injured.
Police caught up with Jones on foot and found that he had three handguns and narcotics on him at the time of the accident. He has since been charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, fleeing police, reckless endangerment, and many other charges. He was taken to jail.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
