Girard, PA – Woman Injured in Severe Pedestrian Crash on I-90

Girard, PA (October 20, 2022) – Around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, a woman was severely injured in a Girard pedestrian crash.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened in the westbound lanes of I-90 around the area of the Fairview exit. Police said that a woman stopped her vehicle on the side of the road so that she could assist a second motorist who slid off the side of the highway due to slush. While the woman in the first vehicle was walking alongside the road, she was suddenly struck by a driver in a Volkswagen Jetta that lost control.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian woman sustained severe injuries as a result of the accident and was immediately hospitalized. Her current condition is not yet known.

The roadway was shut down in multiple lanes in the area due to the accident. Police confirmed that the 22-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen was taken into custody for questioning but it is not known if he received any charges.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
