No matter how carefully we traverse the roads, we can never guarantee that every other driver is exercising the same amount of caution. All-too-often, people get behind the wheel in a less-than-favorable condition. In the wee hours of this morning, the people of the town of Scranton woke up to grim news concerning a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Pittston and Breck Street.
Police say the crash happened around 2:30 am Friday morning, and while most people in the area have seen car accidents on this corner before, none have ever been this severe. The devastating crash took the life of 20-year-old Robert Ortiz as his car was slammed by a vehicle being driven by Noah Cohen, 25. While accidents at this intersection have been known to result in serious, and even catastrophic injuries, no one expected this.
According to reports, Cohen was intoxicated when he crashed into Ortiz’s vehicle at high speed. Ortiz leaves behind a fiancé who is also expecting a child, as well as a 2-year-old son. For his role and blatant negligence in the crash, Cohen is currently locked up in Lackawanna County.
At Edelstein, Martin & Nelson, we are sadly familiar with the damaging and negligent behavior of other drivers. And while this accident resulted in the death of the victim, that is not always the case. However, extremely serious injuries are almost always a result of such erratic conduct.
