Cheswick, PA (November 7, 2019) – On Monday afternoon, police reported that one person was seriously injured in a train accident involving a vehicle near the Rachel Carson Park.
The accident took place when a lime green pickup truck ended up on the train tracks and the train was unable to stop in time, pushing the vehicle for nearly a mile before it was able to come to a rest. The male driver was immediately hospitalized following the collision.
The driver was able to climb out of the truck even with injuries, due to the fact that the train struck the pickup on the passenger’s side. He was alert when he was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
The tracks were closed down for some time as emergency responders worked to remove the damaged vehicle from the tracks. Investigators continue to look into the circumstances of the collision at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
