Carman L. Williams, 60, Killed and 2 Others Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash at Gordy Road and Sussex Highway

Laurel, Pennsylvania (August 30, 2017) – A 60-year-old woman died, and two others were injured in a crash involving a tractor trailer Tuesday evening in Laurel, as reported by a local news source article.

The fatal collision happened at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday, August 29 at the intersection of Gordy Road and Sussex Highway, also known as US 13.

Carman L. Williams, 60, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was driving a 2006 Buick Lucerne westbound on Gordy Road and stopped at the intersection at a stop sign. At the same time, a 62-year-old man from Nelsonia, Virginia was driving a 2011 Kenworth T660 bobtail tractor northbound on Sussex Highway. As he approached the intersection at Gordy Road, Williams failed to remain stopped and entered the intersection directly into the path of the tractor. The driver of the tractor attempted to avoid the collision by swerving to the left, but unfortunately, the front of the tractor struck the driver’s side of the Lucerne.

The impact caused the Lucerne to redirect northbound and slide into the grass median before coming to a stop. Meanwhile, the tractor swerved into the southbound lanes, crossed the center median and stopped on the southbound shoulder of US 13.

The impact caused fatal injuries to Williams who was properly restrained. She was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford where she succumbed to her injuries. Two passengers in her vehicle, a 25-year-old man and a 17-year-old female, both her grandchildren, were transported to Nanticoke Hospital by EMS. They were treated and released.

The operator of the tractor, a 62-year-old man, was not hurt.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.

We wish the family of Carman L. Williams peace in these trying times.
