Berks, PA (August 4, 2021) – On Tuesday morning, August 3, three people sustained critical injuries in a head-on crash that occurred in Bern Township.
The head-on crash occurred on Route 183 in Bern Township shortly after 6:30 a.m., according to officers. All three victims remained hospitalized as of Wednesday, and one was reportedly in critical condition, officials said.
One man, identified as 59-year-old George M. Carter, was the driver of a southbound car that crossed the center lines before hitting a northbound car driven by 21-year-old Cesar A. Abreu-Perez. The incident happened on Route 183 just south of Prison Road, per a preliminary investigation by police.
Both drivers and Abreu-Perez’s passenger, identified as 45-year-old Duane Wallace, were transported by ambulance to Reading Hospital. Carter was listed in critical condition, and Abreu-Perez and Wallace were each in stable condition, according to a statement released by a hospital spokeswoman.
A crash reconstruction was being conducted by officers with assistance from detectives with the Berks County district attorney’s office. Bern Police Chief Wesley Waugh said that the investigation is ongoing at this time, and further details have not been released.
