Bala Cynwyd, PA – Firefighter Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on I-76LawPaWriter
Bala Cynwyd, PA (July 24, 2021) – Around 3 a.m. on Saturday morning, July 24, a firefighter was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in Bala Cynwyd.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened in the westbound lanes of I-76. Two vehicles initially collided with each other in the area, which prompted police to the scene. A trooper was speaking with one of the drivers when an SUV drove up and struck the trooper, as well as three firefighters and a passenger vehicle.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were dispatched to the scene. The trooper and two of the firefighters were taken to one hospital, while the other firefighter was rushed to Paoli Hospital. That firefighter, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead while there.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Jacquelyn Walker, was arrested at the scene of the crash. She has since been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, and more.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
